Pokemon Champions Victory Points (VP): How to Earn and Use Them

Victory Points power almost everything in Pokemon Champions. You need them to recruit Pokemon, teach new moves, change abilities, and buy items. Understanding how to earn and spend VP is essential for building a strong, competitive team. Here's everything you need to know.

What are Victory Points?

Victory Points (VP) are the main currency in Pokemon Champions. Unlike other Pokemon games that use multiple currencies, Champions uses VP for everything. You earn it by battling and spend it on improving your team. The game works in a simple loop: battle to earn VP, spend VP to strengthen your team, then use your improved team to win more battles and earn even more VP.

How to Earn Victory Points Pokemon Champions

There's one main way to earn VP in Pokemon Champions: battle.

  • Ranked Battles: Ranked Battles are the primary source of Victory Points. Winning Ranked Battles earns you VP.
  • Casual Battles: While the VP rewards for Casual Battles aren't confirmed yet, they likely offer smaller amounts than Ranked matches.

Other sources (TBC)

The game may include additional VP sources like:

  • Daily login bonuses
  • Completing challenges or missions
  • Seasonal events and competitions
  • Battle Pass rewards

We'll update this section once the game launches and all VP sources are confirmed.

How to use Victory Points

VP has several important uses that directly impact your team's strength and customization options.

Train your Pokemon

Training is the most important use for VP. You can modify your Pokemon's stats, moves, abilities, and nature using VP.

VP training costs:

Training TypeVP Cost
Moves~250 VP
Nature~500 VP
Ability~250VP
Stat Points~5 VP per stat
  • Note: We will update the Costing once the game is launched.

Modifying moves costs around 250 VP. This lets you teach Pokemon new attacks. Changing a Pokemon's nature costs approximately 500 VP. Natures affect stat growth, so picking the right nature for your strategy matters. For example, an offensive Pokemon wants a nature that boosts Attack or Special Attack.

Adjusting individual stat points costs about 50 VP per stat. This lets you fine-tune your Pokemon's stats to maximize offense, defense, or speed depending on your battle strategy.

Recruit Pokemon permanently

Recruiting Pokemon costs 2,500 VP, making it the most expensive single purchase in the game.

Pokemon Champions offers two recruitment options:

  • Temporary recruitment (free): You can recruit one random Pokemon per day at no cost. This Pokemon stays with you for 7 days before leaving your roster.
  • Permanent recruitment (2,500 VP): Spend VP to keep a recruited Pokemon forever. This is essential for building a stable competitive team since temporary Pokemon disappear after a week.

You can also use VP to recruit additional Pokemon beyond the daily free option, though the cost remains 2,500 VP per Pokemon.

Buy Items and Mega Stones

The in-game shop sells various items using VP:

  • Mega Stones: Cost 2,000 VP each. You need these to Mega Evolve specific Pokemon during battles. Each Pokemon requires its own unique Mega Stone.
  • Held items: Various competitive items that Pokemon can hold in battle.
  • Cosmetics: Customize your trainer's appearance with different clothing options, change your Pokeball throwing animations, and even purchase battle music from other Pokemon games.

We recommend prioritizing Mega Stones and held items over cosmetics. These directly improve your battle performance, while cosmetics are purely visual.
